Preface for Trio in G Major for Flute, Cornet and Piano by the composer, Steven Franklin:
“I wrote this piece for my wife, who is a lovely flute player. The musical ideas are simple and folk-inspired. Think of a pastoral scene, with its simple and unassuming beauty.
It takes some degree of sensitivity to achieve proper balance in this type of ensemble. Both piano and cornet should balance to the flute, while feeling free to make expression within a softer, sweeter sound. Cornet can be substituted with flügelhorn if necessary, or at last resort, it may also be played on a trumpet.”
