To sum up, we recommend this piece for any brass quintet recital, concert or gigs. In short, these dances are very sparky when performed by brass instruments. However, the two tenor drums also add a whole lot to the performance.

The dances in the piece:

  1. Ballet du Roy pour sonner apres
  2. Courante So ben mi ch’ha bon tempo
  3. Galliarde
  4. Volte
  5. Three Voltes

About the collection of dances

Terpsichore is a collection of over 300 instrumental dance pieces by Michael Praetorius. There were no instruments specified on the score. As a result many combinations of woodwind, brass, and string instruments performed these pieces over the hundreds of years. These pieces sound especially great on brass instruments. That is to say we selected and arranged five of these dances in this volume (Vol.1) for brass quintet and optional percussion. The percussion parts are included.
